What's
new?
11/27/2011 It's been quite a while since I have updated the family website. The software that I was using to edit the site is no longer supported and I just didn't have time until now to find a replacement. What I'm using seem to work fairly well for now.
I added a new address for Liz Sweet, new e-mail address for Joan and David Sweet, and removed Johnny Sweet from the Address Book. The link to the Address Book does require a user name and password.
12/4/2006
Quick update. Just added Mike's and Liz's new addresses. Both addresses can be found in the Address Book link on the left (don't forget that you need a user name and password to access it).
6/7/2006 (Updated 6/8/2006)
I'm sorry about the lack of
updates, been very busy lately. Mike "retired" from Honeywell and
is moving to start a new job, we'll have his new address when he's
settled. Barbara Lewellen has sent a number of pictures that I
haven't posted yet (hopefully soon).
This update is simple:
we now have our twin cousins addresses (Vicki Scaggs & Barbara Lewellen) and Jack has moved into a house
in Fallon. All three addresses can be found in the Address Book link
on the left (don't forget that you need a user name and password to
access it. The second thing is that you may notice that the link
to the dolls is gone. Mike is splitting up the dolls and shipping
them to family members (sorry that it took so long).
Please keep me up to date on
changes. Mom's passing has shown us how important it is to have a
central source of important numbers and addresses.
2/13/2006 (Updated 2/16/2006!)
Frances Sweet (Mom) passed away on Wednesday, February 8th
due to a massive stroke. The service was held on Saturday,
February 11th, at 2:00 PM in Fallon, Nevada. I was surprised how
many peoples' lives were touched by her kindness.
Mom will be buried next to
Dad (and her family) at the Memorial Park Cemetary in Kansas City,
Missouri. The internment has changed and will now take place on Friday, February 24th
at 11:00 AM.
The service gave us a chance
to get some address updates for family members, and I have made those
updates in the Address Book. (Don't forget to send me any
additional changes - my e-mail address is at the bottom of every page
of this website.)
Remember, you need a user name and
password to access the Address Book and some other parts of
the site, contact me (using the link on the bottom of the
page) for more information.
12/21/2005
James sent me a couple of pictures from 1948. One is
of the Sweet family and the other is Mom and Sophie holding Dave and
Johnny. They're posted in the Pre-1970 section of the Photo Album (link on the left).
Just a reminder that there are some new addresses in the
Address Book from earlier in the month and don't forget to send me any
changes.
12/10/2005
I have new addresses for James' daughter Elizabeth; Mike's daughters Julia and Anne; and Dave's daughter Kelly.
You can find them in the Address Book link on the left. James
also sent out an e-mail reminding everyone to keep me informed of
changes in address, so that I can update the website. Remember, you need a user name and
password to access the Address Book and some other parts of
the site, contact me (using the link on the bottom of the
page) for more information.
10/12/2005
Another quick update: After her most recent hospital
stay, Mom has been moved to an assisted living facility. She
will no longer live at the Hotel in Fallon. We hope to move
her to assisted living in Southern California soon. I have
her new phone number in the Address Book. Remember, you
need a user name and password to access the Address Book and
some other parts of the site, contact me (using the link on
the bottom of the page) for more information. Brother Mike
did most of the work over his Birthday. Thanks Mike!
5/24/2005
A quick update: Brother Mike moved from Minnetrista to
St. Paul (Minnesota). His contact info has been updated in
the Address Book. Remember, you need a user name and
password to access the Address Book and some other parts of
the site, contact me (using the link on the bottom of the
page) for more information.
5/21/2005
Quite a few updates this time.
First, I have added the Program from cousin Peggy Jane
Scaggs' Memorial service. You will find it in Other Family
Links. I have updated our brother Jim's e-mail address (it
changed). You will find that in the Address Book. Remember,
you need a user name and password to access the Address Book
and some other parts of the site, contact me (using the link
on the bottom of the page) for more information.
I also added a photo from the 1971 Walker Reunion. You
will find that in the Photo Album. Peggy Jane's daughter
Barbara Lewellen sent a couple of things. The first is a
military picture and a record of medals for Fran's Uncle
Sandy (Alexander Hogg Bowman). She also sent the passport
and the family passport photo from Fran's immigration to the
United States in 1919. Both of these items are in Family
History.
Remember, if you want anything posted on this site
removed, please contact me.
4/5/2005
First, I was very sorry to hear of the passing of our
cousin, Peggy Jane Scaggs on March 24th. I have many fond
memories of time spent with her and I will miss her.
Memorial services will be held, Saturday, April 9, at 2
p.m., at the United Church of Broomfield, 825 Kohl Street,
Broomfield, Colorado. Her cremated remains will be buried at
sea this summer.
I have added a PDF version of her obituary to the Other
Family Links section of the website. (The PDF should be
handled automatically by your web browser. You should be
able to view, save, and print it.)
I'm sorry that I didn't get this information on the site
earlier.
I have also added Jackie Sue Scaggs' address and phone
number to the Address Book link. Please let me know if you
have more people to add or need to update information.
Remember, if you want anything posted on this site
removed, please contact me. Also, you need a user name and
password to access the Address Book and some other parts of
the site, contact me (using the link on the bottom of the
page) for more information.
Brother Jim sent me a photo of Fran and Jim from 1941! I
have added it to the Pre-1970 page from the Photo Album link
on the left. Take a look (hard to believe they were ever
that young).
12/21/2004
Here's a quick update. brother James sent me an updated
address for his daughter Elizabeth. Also, for those who
haven't already heard, I have changed professions. I am now
in Real Estate. I am an agent with a large local company,
Edina Realty. So if you know anyone in the Twin Cities area
looking to buy or sell their home, please recommend me. I
think there may be some additional updates in the next few
weeks, but time will tell.
8/13/2004
I bet that you thought that the web site had been
forgotten. Nope. I was just being lazy! One of my problems
was a security glitch on the backup site. The backup site is
no longer in operation. If you ever find that you don't have
to login to access the Address Book and other protected
pages, please let me know ASAP! Thank you Joan for the
head's up about the backup site.
Joan Sweet (Dave Sweet's wife and Uncle Bill's
daughter-in-law) retired on June 30th. Check the Address
Book for her new e-mail address. I have also updated the
Address Book with the e-mail and cell phone information that
Jimmy circulated.
Way back in May, Barbara Lewellen (Aunt Glady's
grand-daughter) sent me word that there is new information
available about the Bowmans. Barbara has been working with
Liz Smith from Dundee, Scotland. Liz has written up a story
on the Balgay Cemetery and the Bowmans buried there. I have
added links to those pages in the Other Family Links
section.
In an attempt to lessen my junk e-mail, I have changed my
e-mail link on the bottom of just about every page on this
site(what a pain!). I've made it tougher for "automated
e-mail address harvesters" to see or use it. (It's an
encrypted JavaScript!) You will have to have JavaScript
enabled to use it (or you can login to the Address Book for
my e-mail address). Let me know if it causes you any
problems. If anyone else needs to protect their e-mail
address posted on a public web page, let me know; I can
help.
12/16/2003
It has been a long time since an update, sorry. Just
added a new address for Johnny Sweet (Uncle Bill's son) in
Bozeman. (Sorry it took so long, Joan.) Hope all are having
a good Holiday.
8/18/2003
Just a quick update. Brother Jim's cell phone number has
changed and we have an updated address for his daughter,
Liz. You'll find the changes in the Address Book section.
(E-mail me if you need the password).
8/6/2003
I received more information from Joan Sweet (Cousin
David's wife) late yesterday. Here's the funeral
information:
"The funeral service for Jason (age 20) and Janeca Sweet
(5 mos.) will be Saturday morning (August 9th) at 9:00 AM at
Dokken Nelson Funeral Chapel (113 South Willson
Avenue,Bozeman, MT 59715). Interment will be in Sunset Hills
Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Christian Center
(on Mendenhall behind Safeway's).
Don't know anything else. Am assuming it will be one
funeral and that they will be buried together because Steve
(Jason's father) indicated they had to do pick out A
cemetery plot."
All our prayers are with their family.
8/4/2003
I received an e-mail from Joan Sweet (Cousin David's
wife) about cousin Steve's son Jason (Uncle Bill's
grandson):
"Yesterday afternoon, Jason Sweet (Steve's son) and his
infant daughter were killed in a car wreck on North Seventh
Avenue in Bozeman. They were hit by a semi-truck. Full
details can be read in the Bozeman Chronicle at: http://bozemandailychronicle.com/articles/2003/08/04/news/01fatalbzbigs.txt
. We don't know yet about funeral arrangements. Will let you
all know (hopefully later today) as soon as we know."
All our prayers are with their family.
7/31/2003
I picked Mike up at the airport after his return from
Fran's 90th Birthday party. With what he had to say in
combination with my conversation with Fran after her B-day,
it sounds like a good time was had by all!
Just a quick update. I have changed Doug and Janice's
e-mail addresses, the one that I had in the Address Book was
out of date. Make certain that you update your e-mail
program!
7/24/2003
Well, everyone's excited about Fran's 90th birthday
party. Mike and I got a chance to get together with cousin
David Sweet, his wife Joan, and a number of the "kinfolk"
when they were here in the Twin Cities the last of June.
I took this time to do a couple of quick updates. You
will find a "More Family Branch information from Barbara
Lewellen" link on the Family History page. Barbara sent me
information on a number of people that are related to the
Bowman's back in Scotland. I have also added Elizabeth
Sweet's (James' daughter) new address (this one should be
good for the next three years). In the Address Book, she is
no longer under Liz, but is under Elizabeth.
6/2/2003
Here's what's new: I added a couple of "Then and Now"
pages to the Family History section with pictures of #9
Elgin St. and Grandfather Bowman's store spanning almost 100
years! Jim sent me some old pictures of Dad's parents'
family. I added a page to the Photo Album section. I also
updated some address information for my daughter Kristin
(who will be back home with us for the next year or so); and
address and calendar information for some of Uncle Bill's
family (thanks to cousin David's wife Joan).
5/14/2003
We're back!
I tried to e-mail everyone to tell them that the
www.sweet-family.com website was down, if I missed you
please e-mail me at the link on the bottom of the page and I
will add you to the e-mail list for the website. Meanwhile,
I have moved the website to a (hopefully) more reliable
hosting service. If you find anything missing or not working
properly, let me know.
I added only a couple of small changes with the move:
Fran's address is complete and Edna Karrasch's e-mail
address has been updated. Hope to get to some updates soon
(I've been putting them off way too long....).
12/30/2002
Just a couple of quick updates. I added Julia to the
Address Book section (access requires a password: e-mail me
for one). I also added a link to George Sterling Bowman's
military record (sent me by Barbara Lewellen). He was
Grandfather Bowman's brother (Mom's uncle) and was killed in
World War 1.
Dave and Jimmy need your feedback on Fran's 90th (see
below). Please get back to them.
12/18/2002
Two updates in the same month!
I received an e-mail from Jimmy a few days ago (some of
you did as well). He and Dave are talking about a 90th
birthday party for Fran next summer. Here's his e-mail:
*************************************************
David and I have talked about Fran's 90th and have a few
ideas. Please let me know your thoughts.
Dates: Sometime in June or July subject to best dates for
family members to attend.
Location: In Las Vegas- There would be lots of activities
for all ages, food is cheap and lodging would also be
inexpensive due to off-season.
David has a friend that he thinks he could rent a house
from to house 4 or 5 groups plus be a gathering place for
everybody. Drop Jim a note with your thoughts and best times
(give several options) when you and your family would be
able to attend.
Jim's e-mail: jgsweet@earthlink.net
*************************************************
Now to the changes on the website.
First, Kristin is back from Scotland and will be home for
the month of January (J-Term); then she goes back to
Macalester for her final semester. I have switched her
information in the Address Book to reflect our home and will
change it in late January with her Macalester info.
Second, the first installment of our Family Tree has been
added to the Family History section. Due to some security
concerns, it is password protected. You can use the same
password that you use for the Address Book. Those who
haven't gotten the password or have forgotten can just
e-mail me and I will send it to them. The Family Tree needs
alot more work and I need everyone to send me in information
for their families.
That's all for now, wishing you and yours a Merry
Christmas!
12/6/2002
I am always amazed at how long it takes me to get to
updating the web site. Jan and I have been home almost a
month since we visited Kristin in Scotland.
Jimmy put me in touch with our cousin's daughter (Glady's
grandchild), Barbara Lewellen. She is putting together a
Bowman web site. She has done an incredible job of
researching the Bowman history, including the "Gamekeeper's
Daughter" story. Her site has pictures that I hadn't seen
before and she plans to add more. The information that I got
from her and Jimmy helped Jan, Kristin, and I do a little
historical visit to Dundee while we were in Scotland. I have
added some pictures that we took in Dundee and a link to
Barbara's Bowman Family site to the Family History
section.
If you wish to visit the Bowman site this is the link:
http://freepages.folklore.rootsweb.com/~bldr
I have also added the little photo website that I created
for Kristin's study abroad in Scotland. I added it to the
Photo Album section. The style varies from the rest of the
site, but you may find the pictures fun. The direct link to
the site is: http://www-sweet-family.com/kristin.
I have started an e-mail (or should I say junk mail) list
to inform folks when I make changes to the website. If you
wish to be added to the list, just e-mail me at the link in
the lower left corner of this page.
I haven't heard from anyone concerning the Christmas
Letter idea mentioned in October, so I will table it for
another year. Don't forget to e-mail me those updates for
the website.
Dig into those drawers of old pictures and send me
copies. If you don't have a scanner, just mail them and I
will return them to you after I have scanned them.
10/16/2002
Well, its been a while since I did an update.
Marty sent me an update for Kelly. Her e-mail in the
Address Book is valid starting Friday (10/18/2002).
The Address Book now includes Kristin's address, phone,
and e-mail for University of St. Andrews. She is spending
her Fall Semester of her Senior year at the University of
St. Andrews in Scotland. She will return before Xmas. If you
wish to see some pictures from her "adventure", they are
posted on http://dsweet.homeip.net . I will post some here
after her return.
I hope everyone has had a good fall. Here it is a couple
of days after Jan and my 24th anniversary, and Minneapolis
is getting its first snow of the season. Halloween is just
around the corner. We will miss Halloween, we will be
visiting Kristin in Scotland for a week or so. Don't forget
to e-mail me those updates for the website.
I am still considering trying to make a "Christmas
letter" on this site that would update everyone about
changes in all the branches of the Sweet family. Let me know
if you are interested and would be willing to
contribute.
9/14/2002
I just received Liz Sweet's (Jim's daughter) new St.
Paul, MN, address. It has been updated in the Address Book
section of the website.
I'm also open to any suggestions concerning the Website.
Remember this site is intended for fun. If anyone finds a
photo or other content uncomplimentary or objectionable, I
will remove it. Just call or e-mail me. Don't forget to
include us if you have any news, photos, etc. to share. This
is a site for all of us.
9/9/2002
I survived my 50th birthday (just barely)! If you haven't
visited the summer get together photo page since the first
day (8/25), there are a couple of new photos from Mike
(added 8/26).
Mike has a business cell phone number that I have added.
Marty (Martha, Dave's wife) sent along her new e-mail
address and news about daughter Kelly. Kelly is in Africa
working with Jane Goodall's foundation. According to Marty
"She is having lots of experiences with primates and is
loving it!" Her e-mail address in Africa has been added to
the Address Book (her old e-mail address is no longer
valid). She will be returning to the US on November 14th
(after that the African e-mail address will no longer be
valid). Marty also sent us a photo of Kelly in Africa. It
has been added to the Post-1970 section of the Photo
Album.
Kristin will soon be leaving for Scotland for her
semester abroad. She will attend St. Andrews University,
Scotland, for Fall semester of her senior year. St. Andrews
is almost exactly between Edinburgh and Dundee on the east
coast of Scotland. I will update the site with her e-mail
address and hopefully some pictures when I receive them.
Mike also sent some links to family-related stuff on the
web. You will find four new links in a new section of the
Other Family Links page. Two pertain to one of Dad's INS
cases; one is a birthday wish; and the last is a link
describing Mike's big labor negotiation from the union's
point of view.
Don't forget to include us if you have any news, photos,
etc. to share. This is a site for all of us.
Remember that photos have the date added under them to
make it easier to find the ones you haven't seen yet. Let me
know if anything doesn't work right.
8/25/2002
Well the summer get together is over and a good time was
had by all. I have added photos from Mike and Kristin. You
will find them on a special page, the link is in the Photo
Album. You will find that I have reorganized the Photo Album
page.
This site now has 8.541 web links. I am unable to check
each one. Let me know if you find a bad link, I have made a
number of changes to the site to keep it moderately under
control. Bad links are hard to find but easy to fix!
I'm also open to any suggestions concerning the Website.
Remember this site is intended for fun. If anyone finds a
photo or other content uncomplimentary or objectionable, I
will remove it. Just call or e-mail me.
8/11/2002
If you are looking for info on the summer get together,
see 7/2/2002 below (I will leave it in bold until after the
gathering).
Here are a couple of updates on the 2002 Sweet Family
summer gathering. Jim has made reservations for golf at
9:00AM (local time) at the Paradise Golf Course. It's about
6 miles south of Lakeland Village on Highway 50. The cost is
$50 with carts and their phone number is 503-577-2121. Also,
Liz Sweet is confirmed for the reunion.
Liz is moving to Minneapolis/St. Paul area for a
year or so. A new number is in the Address Book and I will
follow up with her new address, etc. as soon as I get
it.
Kristin is moving home for a few weeks before going
off to Fall Semester in St. Andrews, Scotland. I will try to
update the Address Book with her address and e-mail over
there.
Hope summer is going better for everyone than the stock
market.....
7/6/2002
I wanted to tell everyone that I just added an online
catalog of the Madam Alexander Doll collection that Mom
wants to sell. If you know of anyone wishing to buy Madam
Alexander Dolls, this is a great time. I also have access to
my Mother-in-law's collection (although it's not cataloged
yet). They can access the online catalog directly by going
to "www.sweet-family.com/dolls" (remind them not to forget
the hyphen between sweet and family. They can also just
access this page (www.sweet-family.com) and click the link
at the top of the left column.
7/2/2002
I am sorry that I didn't place this earlier. The 2002
Sweet Family summer gathering will take place in Lake Tahoe,
Nevada; Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; August 15th,
16th, 17th, and 18th. Jim did the early coordination and has
much of the information. Contact David if you plan on
coming, as always, he is handling housing. Housing will be a
rented condo (or two) at Lakeland
Village Resort (this is a link to the resort's web
site). The nearest airport is Reno and its airport code
is RNO. Expected attendees, so far are: Fran; Doug, Janice,
& kids; Kristin; Dave & Marty; Jack & Emily; Jim
& Elizabeth(pending job situation); Mike, Julia, and
Anne; and Mary, Martha, Edna, and families.
2/25/2002
Just a quick change to enter the new e-mail address for
Dave (son) & Martha's family.
1/29/2002
Joan (wife of Dad's nephew David) sent us a copy of
Aunt Sophie's Obituary and Program from her Memorial
Service. They have been added to the Other Family Links
section of this website.
1/22/2002
I have been tied up during the holidays, I hope that
everyone had a great Christmas! I made some changes to the
Address book (mostly Jack's new phone number) and to correct
misspellings on a number of pages(gee, I hope I spelled
misspellings correctly). Mike sent me some pictures and they
have been added to the Post_1970 section (look for January
22, 2002 under the thumbnail images for the new ones). I am
continuing work on the Family Tree. Let me know if you find
anything wrong or have anything to add. (I still need Uncle
Verne's wife's maiden name and the year of their
marriage.)
For next year, I am thinking about trying to make a
"Christmas letter" on this site that would update everyone
about changes in all the branches of the Sweet family. Let
me know if you are interested and would be willing to
contribute.
12/21/2001
I have updated Address Book information on Uncle Bill's
side of the family that I received from Joan (cousin David's
wife). I also received information about Uncle Bill and
Sophie's wedding from Joan and have updated the Walker
Family History. (I still need Uncle Verne's wife's maiden
name and the year of their marriage.) I have also added some
photos from Edna. The photos of the Summer 2001 family
gathering, have their own section in the Photo Album.
12/17/2001
Just added Jack's new address to the Address Book.
Contact me (you can use the link at the bottom of the page)
if you don't have a user name and password.
12/16/2001
I have now added the information from the notebook that
Martha made with Mom about the history of the
heirlooms (and other stuff) at the Sioux Falls apartment. I
decided it was somewhat sensitive, so it is password
protected. Even though you access it through the Family
History link to the left, you will need to enter the same
user name and password that you use to access the Address
Book section of the Website. Contact me (you can use the
link at the bottom of the page) if you don't have a user
name and password.
I also changed the format of the Calendar pages in the
Address Book section. They should be more consistent in size
and should look much more like a standard calendar (rather
than the weird look it had originally).
This site now has 2,413 links. Let me know if you find a
bad one. They're hard to find but easy to fix! I'm also open
to any suggestions concerning the Website. Just call or
e-mail me.
12/10/2001
Well, I added the 32 additional photos from Janice, Doug,
Mike, Marty, and Dave. You can find them in the Photo Album
section. Sixteen of them are in a new area there for
pictures from Dad's Memorial gathering in San Diego. There
are additions to both the Pre and Post 1970 albums as well.
I added the date the picture was added to the Website to
each picture on the overview pages. I hope this makes it
easier to find the new items since your last visit.
This site now has 2,393 links. Let me know if you find a
bad one. They're hard to find but easy to fix! I'm also open
to any suggestions. Just call or e-mail me.
12/08/2001
Quite a few changes this time and the Web site is really
growing! While Dave, Mike, and I were packing up the
parents' Sioux Falls place, we found a little memo book that
Grandma Sweet had used as a small photo album. I scanned it
and it is included in the Photo Album section. You can see
that I changed the banner pictures at the top of this page.
I thought it looked more appropriate. Please note that I
changed the Photo Album section. With increasing numbers of
pictures, it threatened to make navigation a nightmare for
those on dialup connections. I hope that the thumbnail pages
and Previous/Next navigation aids help. Let me know if there
are problems or if you have any suggestions. In order to
make the change to the Photo section, I put off adding the
additional photos from Janice and Doug and some that we
scanned while we were in Sioux Falls. I also got some
additional historical material on this trip. I have included
a few of Grandma Sweet's stories in the Family History
section. I have also included Dad's Death Certificate in the
Other Family Links section. Be aware that the print is
small, so it will take 60 to 90 seconds to load on a dialup
connection (be patient). If anyone one wants a higher
resolution version e-mailed or sent to them, just e-mail or
call me.
This site now has 1515 links. Let me know if you find a
bad one. They're hard to find but easy to fix! I'm also open
to any suggestions. Just call or e-mail me.
Hope all is well with you and yours! Merry Christmas!
Only a few more shopping days 'til Christmas. ...gee, I
should post my wish list.......where did I put
that.....hmmmm.....
11/27/2001
I finally transcribed the 'diary' mentioned earlier. It's
actually a Walker - McClure/McMurry Family History. This is
a History of Grandmother Sweet's family. You will find it in
the Family History section of the Web site. I have also
added Uncle Bill's grandchildren to the Address Book. If
anyone has any ideas or material, let me know.
11/26/2001
I have updated a couple of Karrasch entries in the
Address Book. Janice scanned some photos and sent them to
me. They are on three new pages in the Photo Album. The
Other Family Links now has a copy of the program from Dad's
memorial service in San Diego. I also added an early photo
of Mom & Dad to the Home Page (above). If anyone has any
ideas or material, let me know. Still working on the diary
excerpt for Family History.
11/24/2001
I have updated the address information. The Family
History item still needs to be transcribed, so it will be a
while. I need more information on Jack (his phone number and
e-mail), Emily, and any other incomplete entries. Also,
please review the Address Book entries for you and your
family to confirm that I have it right.
I have added a Family Calendar. It has pages containing
Birthdays and Anniversaries. It can only be accessed from
the Address Book, so it is password protected as well. The
calendar is universal, so it doesn't have the
day-of-the-week, just the dates. Many of the entries for the
calendar have Birth years, if anyone wants their Birth year
removed, just contact me at the link on the bottom of the
page.
11/21/2001
Links to Fran & Jim's Marriage Certificate and Jim's
Obituary are in Other Family Links. I hope to be able to
update the Address book with new information from San Diego
early next week. I might have something for the Family
History as well, but I am still looking for
contributions.
Let me know if you want anything else added.
